Today, we focused on technical exercises, mainly to do with line.
There were some pieces of work that I was quite proud of and some that I was not so keen on.
This will be explained next to the image.
Subject drawn without grid
After being suggested to draw thumbnails with a grid, I missed .the opportunity to create a grid for my main piece. This would have helped the composition stay intact. Though I didn't find it particularly difficult to draw without a grid, I was soon to find out that the grid would have been a very useful asset to have. Especially when I had to scale up my work from thumbnail size to fill half/all the page. Moving forward, as a guideline I shall use a grid to make sure that my composition and scale aligns with my thumbnail
Subject drawn with opposite/weak hand
Taking advice from the previous instances throughout the session, I decided to start using a grid to inform my work.
This greatly benefitted me, especially when it came down to keeping the upscaling uniform.
Using my left hand (off hand) was very beneficial for me. Kraz pointed out that before using my off hand, some of my lines were not dark enough and did not inform shadow in certain areas.
However, when I started doing work past this, I took on the advice to create denser lines in less lit or shadowed areas.
From this, I learned that it is better to experiment with line weight and density.
